Hey, I just read something really interesting on HindustanTimes.com that I wanted to share with you.
Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, mentioned that there was a period when he wanted to adopt a child and even looked into the possibility.
He had a phase in his life where he thought about adoption and actually researched it.
However, he discovered that due to the regulations, it was almost impossible for a single Indian man to adopt a child.
He thought adoption was a cool choice because, let’s face it, we often do things we think are cool.
Previously, the billionaire had stated that he did not want to have children at all.
Now, at 37 years old, he still doesn’t feel the need to have children to continue his legacy and doesn’t want to spend 18-20 years babysitting.
He worried that dedicating so many years to raising a child could end up being a waste if the child decided to leave and not stay connected.
Nikhil also had some pretty deep thoughts about legacy.
He believes that we tend to think we’re more important than we really are.
He sees life as being born, living, and dying like any other animal on the planet, and then being forgotten.
He questions the point of being remembered after death and feels that what truly matters is living well and being kind to the people you meet in your life.
Reading this made me reflect on how we define success and legacy.
It’s refreshing to hear someone like Nikhil talk about living in the moment and being kind to those around you rather than stressing about leaving a mark.
It’s a good reminder to focus on the here and now, and on the people who matter in our lives.
