Hey, guess what I just read on HindustanTimes.com?
Air India is giving its pilots a salary hike of up to ₹15,000 per month, plus an annual performance bonus that can go up to ₹1.8 lakh.
This news caught my eye because it’s quite a significant change for the airline industry.
Starting from April 1, the new salary structure will be in effect.
From first officers to senior commanders, everyone is getting a pay raise ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 in fixed monthly pay.
Additionally, there’s a performance bonus system now.
For instance, first officers and captains will receive an annual bonus of ₹60,000.
Meanwhile, commanders and senior commanders will get bonuses of ₹1.32 lakh and ₹1.8 lakh, respectively.
Unfortunately, there’s no raise for junior first officers, but they will get a bonus ranging from ₹42,000 to ₹1.8 lakh annually.
There’s also good news for pilots who faced delays in their ground and simulator training – they’ll be compensated for that lost time.
Plus, Air India has introduced a target-based performance bonus for the financial year 2024-25, which will be paid based on both company and individual performance.
Individual performance will be assessed using something called Rise.AI, which sounds quite tech-savvy.
Interestingly, this salary hike comes at a time when Air India reported a loss of ₹11,381 crore in the fiscal year 2023, which is an 18.6 percent increase from the previous year’s loss of ₹9,591 crore.
Despite this, their revenue from operations doubled to ₹31,377 crore, and their total expenses went up by about 40.3 percent.
Reading about these changes made me realize how important it is for companies to invest in their employees, even during tough financial times.
It’s clear that Air India is trying to boost morale and performance by recognizing and rewarding their pilots’ hard work.
It’s a good reminder that valuing and supporting employees can lead to better overall performance and satisfaction.
So, what do you think about Air India’s move?
It seems like a positive step for the pilots, and hopefully, it will pay off for the airline in the long run.
