Rajkummar Rao, who is currently excited about his new film, “Mr. and Mrs. Mahi,” produced by Karan Johar, had an interesting chat with Karan and his co-star, Janhvi Kapoor.
Rajkummar opened up about the challenges of losing roles to star kids, a topic that’s been part of the ongoing insider-outsider debate in Bollywood.
Karan Johar commented on this debate, suggesting that some people use it to grab attention.
He expressed skepticism about the idea that missing parties leads to losing film roles.
Karan said that sometimes people use the insider-outsider debate to make headlines, with immensely successful individuals claiming they felt victimized and lost opportunities to star kids, or suggesting they missed out on roles by not attending certain parties, though he doesn’t know of any parties where film roles were decided.
In response, Rajkummar shared his own experiences.
When he first arrived in Mumbai, he was advised to attend parties for networking.
He explained that while making contacts isn’t a problem, attending a party just to network felt awkward.
He mentioned that he was supposed to do a film, but overnight, he was replaced by a well-known star kid, which he thought was unfair because of the influence and connections involved.
However, the film never got made. He noted that the person who replaced him was an insider, but it could have just as easily been a successful outsider who did the same thing.
Rajkummar also mentioned in an earlier interview with Ranveer Allalhabadia that he had lost a film to an outsider before, and he prefers to move on rather than dwell on it.
He noted that it felt like karma that the film never got made.
On a positive note, Rajkummar is currently enjoying the success of his recently released film “Srikanth.”
Released on May 10, the film is doing well at the box office.
Actor Ranveer Singh praised Rajkummar on social media, and Akshay Kumar also complimented the film, suggesting Rajkummar should start giving acting classes.
Rajkummar plays the role of the visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla in the film.
This story really struck a chord with me because it highlights the importance of resilience and staying true to oneself despite challenges.
Rajkummar’s experience is a reminder that while the industry can be tough and sometimes unfair, persistence and talent ultimately shine through.
It’s a great lesson for all of us to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles.
