Hey there! So, I recently read an interesting piece on HindustanTimes.com about Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the brilliant filmmaker behind movies like “Devdas” and “Padmaavat.”
He opened up about some of his projects, including a biopic on the legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi and the much-anticipated film “Inshallah,” which was supposed to star Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bhansali shared that he isn’t sure what he’ll make or when he’ll make it.
It’s all about an “inner calling” that drives his creative process.
He explained that he could be deep into making one film, like “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” and suddenly feel the urge to switch to another project, like “Ram Leela.”
It’s this spontaneous, deeply felt inspiration that guides his decisions.
Bhansali said that he really doesn’t know what they will make and when they will make it.
It’s a very spontaneous decision. It has to come from deep within to want to make the film.
Reflecting on his journey, Bhansali talked about his long-held dream of making “Heeramandi.”
He recalled his childhood visits to a film studio, which sparked his passion for storytelling.
He said that he wanted to make the film 18 years back.
After every film, ‘Heeramandi’ would come out, and he would say once again, wait, it’s too vast.
He eventually decided it was too epic to be just a two-hour film and turned it into a series, which took a lot of planning and effort over 14 years of planning, 18 years of living with it, and two years of designing.
“Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” marks Bhansali’s debut in the OTT world.
Streaming on Netflix, this series explores the cultural reality of Heeramandi through the lives of courtesans and their patrons.
It features a star-studded cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari.
Bhansali’s ability to follow his creative instincts is something I find truly inspiring.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best work comes from listening to that inner voice, even if it means taking a longer or more complicated path.
His dedication to his projects, like the meticulous planning for “Heeramandi,” shows the importance of patience and persistence in bringing a vision to life.
