Hey, have you heard about the new AI-powered cameras on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway?
I recently read about it on HindustanTimes.com, and it’s pretty amazing how technology is being used to improve road safety.
In just two weeks since their installation, these cameras have caught around 12,000 traffic violations!
The police are sending challans directly to the mobile phones of vehicle owners.
They’re really emphasizing the importance of following traffic rules to avoid accidents.
I saw a post from the Karnataka police on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Our police cameras are working on Bangalore-Mysore highway. In just 15 days, 12192 traffic violations were caught on the Expressway. If there is an accident due to violation of traffic rules, your family has to suffer. Please think once.”
That really hit home for me.
Karnataka’s additional director general of police, Alok Kumar, even shared a picture taken by one of these cameras.
It showed a KSRTC driver talking on a mobile phone while driving.
He pointed out that these cameras don’t miss a thing, day or night, and urged everyone to avoid using mobile phones while driving.
He also called for action against the driver who broke the rules.
Earlier this month, they installed 60 cameras on the expressway to catch overspeeding vehicles and reduce accidents.
Out of these, 48 are Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras placed in six spots in each direction.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) also added video cameras in three other spots.
Last July, the NHAI sent an expert committee to review and inspect the safety features on this road because of the numerous accidents that have happened since it opened.
This whole initiative made me realize how important it is to follow traffic rules and stay safe on the road.
It’s not just about avoiding fines; it’s about protecting ourselves and our loved ones.
